About our company
Metrosol Limited was formed in 2004. Our research and development facility operates from offices in Paulerspury, Northamptonshire producing a wide range of instruments for the temperature measurement and calibration markets.
Our Ethos
Our Ethos can simply be stated as “uncompromising”. We believe that the difference between an adequate (or even a good) product and a world-class product is in the fine detail and at Metrosol we are unflinching in our search for perfection. We employ a continuous improvement approach, refining our designs and manufacturing processes in order to ensure that our products always deliver the highest performance and are of the highest quality.
Our approach is to look for innovative solutions to measurement problems that provide tangible benefits to users of our instruments. We collaborate with a number of partners (National Measurement Institutions and commercial organisations) who are acknowledged leaders in their field in the development of our technology. The extensive range of skills we can deploy allows Metrosol to take a product design from a market requirement to a fully engineered instrument, ready for production.
Our aim is always to exceed our customers’ expectations.

Technology, Collaboration and Skills
The design of instruments of the sophistication and performance required for the metrology market requires a wide range of skills. We therefore collaborate with other organisations and companies in order to ensure that we have the best expertise to deploy in our development projects. For example, the first product designed by Metrosol was a resistance bridge that used a switched DC technique with a specification that was previously only achievable using AC bridge technology. This involved designing a completely new type of ADC (a multi-bit, sigma-delta analogue-to-digital converter) that was developed in collaboration with NPL (the National Physical Laboratory) and Metron Designs.
Metrosol - Development
We use analytical and numerical modelling techniques to optimise the design of our precision analogue and digital circuits. Mechanical/PCB CAD (computer aided design) as well as rapid prototyping techniques is also used in the development of our products. Software is developed in C, C++ and C# using the latest development tools.
Metrosol - Production
As a dynamic and innovative company, we work with CEMs (contract electronic manufacturers) from the high quality PCB manufacturing and assembly sector. The PCBs in the products we design are assembled using the latest pick-and-place, surface-mount assembly techniques and AOI (automatic optical inspection) to achieve the quality and reliability associated with our products. Every solder joint on our products is machine made and inspected to the same standard as is used in high quality consumer electronics.
Metrosol - Test/Calibration
We have a comprehensive range of electronic instruments, which are used in the development and testing of our instruments. Our air-conditioned calibration laboratory provides a temperature stable environment in which we maintain resistance, voltage, current and temperature standards that are traceable to the UK national standards. This facility allows us to check the performance of our products to < 0.01ppm (resistance ratio).
Metrosol and The Environment
Metrosol is committed to minimising its impact of the environment. In both the design and manufacture of our instruments we aim to:
- Minimise energy and materials usage
- Maximise product lifetime
- Design for easy disassembly for ease of maintenance and recycling at end-of-life
- Reuse materials
- Recycle anything that cannot be reused
- Responsibly dispose of all waste materials
